From July 2nd

Yes, I’m, behind again. Bruce has come and gone from his time at home. While he was gone, it was a busy week or so. It was the kids last week of school for the year, so between the two of them they had something on everyday, excursions and class activities. Conner went out to skating, Jamieson had class parties etc, they both had movie days and between turning up for some of those and working, some of the time. It turned into a really busy week.

Work was interesting to say the least. Paula was not well and fighting flu off all week, so between the deadlines, Ed’s usual stuff and trying to make sure Paula could get some time off. As you can imagine she didn’t get any better and her work was suffering, so on Thursday afternoon that was it. No more work for the rest of the week and the weekend, not asking, telling!!! Which was a little pushy for some but that’s how things get done, so she was appreciative. That meant I had two extra kids on Friday afternoon but that was OK.

Friday night we went over to the Rivera’s for game night, which was fun, we sat around and chatted for a while then we sat down with the kids and played UNO, which was lots of fun. They are all good kids and always have fun. Jamieson ended up staying for a sleep over, which he was really excited about.

I spoke to Bruce everyday, not a lot of Internet access, and as everybody knows the 7-hour time difference is a bit of a pain but he was really busy and most of the time he was out and about when we called anyway.

I went and picked Jamieson up from the Rivera’s and he was ill, so off home to bed. The boys were supposed to have their first basketball practice but that didn’t happen.

I dropped Conner off at basketball at 4.30 and straight back at home. I picked Conner up and he was on cloud nine, he had a great practice, Bruce’s Co-coach said that Conner was on fire at training and you tell when you saw him. He was chatting all the way home; it was really good to see him so excited about his basketball. We had a quiet rest of the weekend as you can imagine, By Monday morning Jamieson was back to normal and running around as per usual.

The start of our week was pretty normal, I went into work for an hour or so on Monday afternoon for a staff meeting and then we had a quiet night in. We spend Tuesday afternoon at Paula’s by the pool, the boys had a good time swimming and playing. Paula was at work and the kids were at after school care. Bruce called upset later that night to say that his flight was cancelled and he wouldn’t be home for July 4th. So that put us all in a bit of a spin. I didn’t tell the boys until the next morning, they were bummed. It’s been so hot here for the last month, and the 4th was just BLAH!!! It was so hot outside you could hardly breathe, I think it topped at 109F, that’s about 40+C, which was just a little hotter than it’s been. We’ve had so much heat; I want to see the clouds just for a little relief. The house is nice and cool which makes it easier to deal with, it just gets warm as the day is ending.

Our 4th July was pretty ordinary, it was so hot we didn’t do anything at all until the afternoon when we went around the corner to the Centro’s where we spent the rest of the night and watched the fireworks which was lots of fun, the kids had lots of fun running around the street on the bikes etc. We got home around 10.30 and went off to bed.

Thursday morning, we got organized to get Bruce from the airport. I spoke to him around 11.30 and Kristie and Carlos’s friend was working on the flight and offered him a ride home to Stockton, around 30 mins from here. We went down there and picked him up and spent a quiet afternoon at home. The rest of the week was fairly ordinary, Bruce caught up on some work and we all chilled out at home out of the heat as well. We got a late call from Carlos saying the car had broken down so Bruce jumped into the car and off he went. He got home at around 9.30 and off to bed for everyone.

I dropped into work for the morning on Friday, not a lot to do, the office was pretty much empty, so I spent most of the morning putting together the kids trip binders, maps, activities etc, they turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. The afternoon I started to think about stuff for our trip and we went around to Paula’s for a quick swim. I had the boys while she went off to work for a little while, then we came home and got ready for our dinner out for the boys good reports when Alfie called.

The Charles came around for a visit; which was really great it’s been a while since we’ve seen them. They are moving across town at the end of the month, so that will be very sad. We had a great visit, bubba Cooper is walking around and had a ball running around the backyard while the boys all played cricket (Conner got a cricket set from Grandma) and then football (American) until dark, then off home they went.

Saturday, we had a quiet morning at home, I started getting some stuff together for our trip and then early afternoon we went out and did some shopping and had an early dinner at a place Bruce and Rhys found called Center Court, a basketball restaurant. The boys thought it was the best thing EVER, and the food was SOOOO yummy. SO you can imagine it will be the new place we frequent.

Our Sunday was a quiet one for the boys at least. I was baking and packing, the kids were chilling out and Bruce slept until 11.00 again. I went out and did the groceries for our trip and when I got back we went over to the Noya’s for a catch up. We got home and had a quiet night in; the kids went off to bed at around 9.30 a big few days ahead.

So that is it for the last couple of weeks. Bruce is supposed to be doing a bit of a trip blog, but who knows if you’ll get that. We’ll see…hey honey.

Wish us luck for our trip to the Grand Canyon and beyond, seven people in an RV for five days. It will be interesting to say the least.

I hope everyone is staying out of the cold and not getting any flu’s….
