It’s now the middle of March and I’m officially sucking at this goal for 2009. Hey, at least I’m getting it done now. OK, Yeay for me, Bruce was down in LA (Bakersfield) for a couple of days staying with Eric and Lauren (they took him to B League basketball game) I talked the boys into haircuts, so the clippers came out! Woo Hoo!!!
Jamieson went out to Youth Group with his friend William and his family, which he really loved, it was a late night for a school night, but once in a while it’s fine. The next day I got a surprise message from Bruce – Conner sprained his ankle playing basketball at lunch. By the time I got home, it was already turning black, so that was a good sign. Bruce had iced it and the swelling was going down…no basketball training for Conner, the rest of team were a little worried. I think Conner liked that. The next morning much to his disgust, we took him into school. Bruce carried him until we got into the gate to near where everyone lined up, then he freaked out and wanted down, so he leaned on Bruce and hopped to the classroom, his teacher had just emailed to see if he was coming. GBA, although it could have been worse, sprained is easy to fix. He was putting weight on it, and by the end of the day, he was walking on it.
I actually started my book outline, which I haven’t mentioned before and probably will not again, but I am putting down moving to the US and California. Then bigger picture we will start a travel website with input from our well travelled friends etc. It should be a fun project.
The movie night process was well into it buy the second week of February, which takes up a bit of my time. Conner had a birthday party on Saturday afternoon, which he really enjoyed. Jamieson and I took some time and went out to lunch, which was nice. I don’t get as much out of him as I do Conner when he gets going, but it’s nice to spend some time just him and I. We went over to Paula’s for dinner, Bruce picked Conner up after his party and the boys all played and went for a hot tub in the cold. Brrrr!!
I finished the weekend cleaning the house in the morning; Millie and Lexie came over for a coffee and catch up. It was a cold yucky day, so staying in was nice, even if it was cleaning the house.
We started the week with the boys having a day off school and I had to go to the dentist and get the bad news about all the money I have spend on my teeth. I need a Crown, blah!!! Conner had a school game and came out on fire, came off the bench and just shot the lights out, it was fun to see especially as his mum. I put together the team photo, go the names from Mrs. T and by the end of the week it was submitted for the yearbook. The rest of the week was fairly quiet, Conner had another game on Thursday, I was at work so didn’t get to go, but Bruce said it was a good game. We watched St Mary’s v Gonzaga and watched Patty go down on his wrist!!! Big bugger, he was on fire and they would’ve won.
I ended the week going over to Paula’s, she had been out of the office sick all week, went over and gave her a blow wave before they went away for the weekend. It was nice just the two of us, that’s rare, usually there’s at least kids running around.
Our Saturday (Happy - you shouldn’t have a day that you have to say I Love you Valentines day) which for the record Bruce and I refuse to celebrate was a busy one; we chilled out in the morning and got ready to head up to Moraga to see St Mary’s play. We jumped into the car mid afternoon and stopped at McDonalds in Lafeyette for dinner. Not my choice, it’s a smallish place and there isn’t many choices. We ate, saw another couple of families with their Gaels jerseys on and headed out to the game. David had forgotten about our tickets, (he had literally got off the plane from Australia on Thursday night to get to the Gonzaga game and was still on auto pilot when Bruce called about the tickets) there was a guy there who remembered us and he organized our tickets, poor David saw us and freaked out. We said a quick Hi from Patty on the way into our seats and I got to sit next to one of the teachers at the school so I got some good school gossip. It was a fun game, the boys played well, even without Patty they pulled it together.
We caught up with David and Cassie (his wife), Patty seemed to be in a good place in regards to his wrist, the surgery went well and he was bandaged up to his fingertips. Bruce cut his hand out of the picture of him and boys… don’t think it was on purpose. Patty was having Baylee (David & Cassie’s daughter) while they went out for dinner, she just loves him and he adores her, if you didn’t know any better you would think she was his. They just have lots of fun together and all they have to do is say ‘There’s Patty’ and she’s off and in his arms. We had a nice catch up and jumped into the car for the trip home, it wasn’t too late a night and the boys take a blanket and pillow so they sleep.
We again, (just for something different) finished the weekend cleaning the house…BORING!!!!
Another week was beginning which was expected to be a big one for me, Movie Night this week, I spent the week in and out of the school office processing tickets. The boys had Monday off, Presidents Day, which makes it a short week. Paula was still out; the doctors are not sure what’s wrong with her, tests and more tests. Conner had a basketball game on Thursday night, which I wasn’t able to go to, but apparently he played well. Paula and I jumped into the car around 4.00pm and headed off to Costco for supplies, the actual movie function was really quiet; we only had around 60 people which meant Paula and I actually got to watch some of the movie. We were all cleaned up lot long after the movie was over and we were home just after 8.30pm.
Friday was a little different; I finished up work early again and headed out to school. The boys came over with me to help me set up. We had about 120 people come to watch the movie and it was a good night. We made some money for the PTO, not as much as usual. I think it’s the weather and time of year. Usually we have them during daylight savings time and when the weather is warmer and it had literally been raining all week and who wants to go out when it’s raining. Everyone that came had a good time. Another successful movie night accomplished, tick!!
Our Saturday turned into a bit of a rush, we decided we’d like to go and see St Mary’s last home game so Bruce text’d David late in the morning, so when David got back to us we didn’t have a lot of time to get ready and going. We were showered and out of the house in an hour. We stopped on the way to get Patty some Tim Tam’s (his favorites) as it will probably be the last time we see him. The game was a great one and the boys played really well, they did a big send off to the Seniors (basketballers & cheerleaders) and after the game we found out it was David’s birthday. So of course a group went out for dinner and this really nice little restaurant in Lafeyette; mostly coaches and a couple of friends. It was a small group of people but it was fun; the game was an early game one so we were at the restaurant at 5.30pm and finished up around 9.30pm. Our Sunday was a quiet one, we got the house cleaning done. Coach Dunne (dad from Yankees team last season)called Bruce and told us that Jamieson was on his son’s team, so this season jamieson is a Cardinal (for all those girls that know me well, I have to wear RED! ) They are red!! Blah!!! The things we do for our wonderful kids.
Here we are on the home stretch of another month and this week like the others turned into a busy one for the Hultgren’s. It started in usual fashion school and work. On Tuesday, was a special day, Bruce and I spent the day together (firstly is unheard of so) we went to an all day seminar at Arco Arena, where the Sacramento Kings play, so that was a first for us, we haven’t been there yet cause we don’t like the Kings.
We arrived a little late so we missed the first guy who was talking about nutrition; the end of it was interesting but it was nothing that we hadn’t heard before. The next speaker was Steve Forbes – CEO of Forbes, Inc. His speech was great, he worked through what is going on at the moment in the world economy and went through what he would do to stimulate the economy here in the US, it was very enlightening.
The next speaker was absolutely my favorite of the whole day – General. Colin Powell. WOW, this guy blew my mind, what a fabulous speaker, wonderful stories what a life this man has lived and accomplishments he’s made in his life. I could have left after that and I would’ve had a great day. Just before lunch we listened to this woman; (who’s company organized these events) she apparently was a sales training expert. The worst speaker I have EVER heard and Bruce said the same thing. Her story is a good one, I’ll give her that, she was a drug addict and found her way out through God and Faith. Then she proceeded on the sales stuff and literally read the slides; Bruce and I went upstairs and started lunch early but could still hear her and it didn’t get any better. She finished her talk with 20 mins on basically a sermon, which wasn’t what we signed up for.
We had some lunch and went for a walk and came back to our seats – our next speaker was Rudy Giuliani. His speech was very interesting; he went through Sept 11 and what he had to do to get through it and what had to happen and how they did it. It was a really good speech and I really enjoyed listening to him. The next speaker was one of Bruce’s favorite people to listen to; Zig Ziglar. To his disappointment Zig had a fall and has no short-term memory anymore, so his daughter asked him questioned and prompted him through the whole thing, he was really disappointed for him, hopefully he is just finishing his commitments and will retire, because from someone who saw him for the first time and they showed some all footage, what he’s doing now if a disservice to who he was and what he used to be like when he inspired people.
The day finished off with Michael Phelps, which was completely disappointing. It was a question and answer and he really didn’t want to be there, but hey, he’s new at it and with the whole Bong incident still fresh in everyone’s mind, I’m sure he was nervous, hopefully he will get better at it that will be his future after swimming. It was a nice day and it’s always fun being inspired especially when Bruce and I are together, it stimulates great conversation.
WE had Master Mind group to round out the month, which always helps us make sure we are on the right track and hopefully seeing how the others are going, helps us to get focused. Paula and the boys came over for some dinner, which the boys loved. On the Thursday night we went over to the Rivera’s for an early dinner, which was fun, it was nice to catch up with them, with them being here and gone we chatted and the kids all played, it was a fun night. The last weekend of the month was a fairly quiet one; I cleaned the house, Bruce worked in the garden (yes, the sun finally came out) I got to open up the house a little and let some fresh air in. Conner and I made a paper machete ball for his Lollipop project. He has to make a larger version of something – and Conner picked a Lollipop. We cleaned up and got ready for our dinner date. We went over to the Prevost’s for dinner. Tom is in our Mastermind Group, which meets once a month, so it will be nice to meet his wife, Mary-Lou and kids.
We had a really yummy dinner and the kids had a blast, they ran around the house, played the WII and watched we all sat down after dinner and watched Madagascar II on the TV. It was a great movie and we all laughed through it. Our Sunday was a quiet one to finish out the month.
So that was the February that was….. I hope everyone had a good one like ours turned out to be.
We had some special birthdays this month…Happy Birthday to Maureen & Peter (RIP).
February was a sad month with the fires in Victoria. Bruce and I sat here helpless reading what was going on at home and feeling helpless being so far away. We definitely felt the magnitude of the event as it made headline news here in the US. We got messages from home saying everyone was fine, which made us feel better.
Bruce has made a special ‘Yellow Ribbon’ Angel that you can find at our No 1 store – ‘This and That’ in Belmont. If you have some special people you would like to get some for, please let us know and we would be happy to help you get them.
We have also put together and special ‘thank you’ angel, which is specifically for all those CFA volunteers (10,000-20,000 of them) – we are looking for sponsors to help us get those produced and sent down to the CFA to distribute them to all those fantastic CFA members – so everyone cross everything that a great company puts their hand up and helps us to get this done.
